Icelandic grimoires in the 19th century ´s manuscript Huld written by Geir Vigfússon (1860).
In the manuscript, the author used only one sentence to describe this symbol:
If this sign is carried, one will never lose one´s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known,
As a sigil, it prevented to get lost and helped to find the way back home.
It’s believed Vegvísir´s arms represent the nine worlds of Norse Mythology, where Midgard (the world of men) is at the center.
